The Hunger Games (book) Trilogy

Posted on April 2, 2012 at 4:10 AM Comments comments (1)

So just a little bit ago now I finished the third and final installment of The Hunger Games book trilogy, let it be said that is the most and fastest reading I have done in a long time. That may be a new personal record with reading three books at nearly 400 pages each in just short of a week. Needless to say I loved the books and really hope that the movies that become of them are as accurate and enticing as the first. At this point it is unknown to me on the progress of planning a second and third movie but fingers are crossed. If and I am assuming it will do as well as it has in its first two weeks the odds are ever higher of a sequel to the first movie. If I hear that there is to be a sequel I will post that information in the comments section of this post rather than make another entry of it.

I've added a donations button to the bottom of side bar.  I've done this mainly to drive support as well as a way for you to support me going to the movies which would in turn generate more revies.  Through the donations you can also request a movie that you would like me to go see for you first.  So please donate and send me to the movies.

The Hunger Games - Box office Domination

Posted on March 29, 2012 at 12:00 AM Comments comments (0)

If any of you have seen The Hunger Games then you know it was an amazing film. I Checked IMDb this morning and found that The Hunger Games is dominating the other films with and astounding $153M gross ticket sales the closest trailing movie is 21 Jump Street with a total gross of $20.5M. This is an astounding accomplishment for the film and I feel that they will continue to pull in even larger numbers in ticket sales. If your having a trouble picturing how much $153M in ticket sales is like then here's an image; When I went to The Hunger Games last Sunday the 2nd to last showing of the night was sold out, I had to purchase a ticket for the next showing 45 minutes a head of time just to make sure I could get a seat. Here are some interesting facts about the movies sale so far.

The Hunger Games has already made back it's $78 M production twice over

The film has made $214.3M in both worldwide and domestic theaters

Jon Carter only managed to bring in $70.6M in it's opening weekend

80% of the Twilight's female audience said The Hunger Games had a broader appeal

The Hunger Games have bested Alice in Wonderland's $116.1M (a previous record) opening weekend by nearly $40M

I've added a new page to the site, a calender that will list the dates that new movies are to be released.  Eventually I plan to expand it to DVD/Blu-Ray release dates as well but for now it will be solely for movies.  Also I have started going to the movies a bit more regularly and I will post a review on them each week.

The Hunger Games

Well frankly if you’re not familiar with this movie you must have just crawled out from under a rock. So far this movie has been blowing away the box office and with good reason. I’m going to say this is so far my favorite movie so far this year. Now this statement is bold to say the least but there still several very strong looking movies set to come out yet this year. The Hunger Games is a film adaptation of the book by (Suzanne Collins) as of now I have not read it or any others from the series as of yet but I plan to change that very soon. This has the potential to become a very successful movie franchise.

The Hunger Games is based in a post-revolutionary/near doomsday world where there consists the capital and then 12 districts or regions of people. The lower numbered districts are where you may find you rich and spoiled who live off of the fruits of other such as where the people of the higher number districts reside. The main character Katniss played by Jennifer Lawrence is from the coal mine district 12. every year in a way to keep the peace the capital host the hunger games as a way to keep all the districts in check and as a reminder of what happened in the past. Every year two people from each district, a young man and women between the age of 12 and 18, are selected to compete in the hunger games a brutal battle of survival with only one able to live and be claimed the winner. You follow Katniss as she battles her way through the games working both against the other contestants and the capital controlling the games. You watch as she constantly outwits the capital and the other mostly single minded contestants. Katniss is able to work with one of the young contestants in order to bring down the alliance of the lower numbered districts. Eventually finding her way to the young man from she came with from her district.

This is an amazing film that is able to capture your mind and heart as it brings you up and down in cadences trials. With well put together visuals and an amazing soundtrack you are taken through the games. This film utilizes in part the ever growing popular technique of a hand-held camera without over doing and sending you on a shaky roller coaster ride. This movie utilized its share of dramatic action scenes and beautiful special effects will still maintaining a believable atmosphere. I would recommend this movie to anyone who enjoys a wonderfully put together story, action and drama as well as a stylistic film. This would make an excellent date movie and is suitable for most of the family; a lot of the fighting may be a bit much for the younger audiences do to some realistic graphic scenes. I hope you enjoy The Hunger Games and may the odds be ever in your favor.

The Women in Black

Posted on February 10, 2012 at 4:45 AM Comments comments (0)

So here’s how it is I'm going to start going to a movie every week. I figure that would be the easiest way for me to see all the movies I want to see. So this week the movie was "The Women in Black" Starring Daniel Radgliffe. First thing first it was awesome seeing Radcliffe in something other than a Harry Potter movie.

This is a very good movie that I would recommend to most all movie goers and with a PG-13 rating most anyone can go. The movie follows the Arthur Kipps(Radcliffe) a young lawyer from London as he works on the case relating to a haunted house in a small rural English town. Eventually this leads Kipps into researching the incidents that have been associated with the women in black. The legend goes that whenever someone sees the women bad the children of the town begin to die in horrific accidents. Most of the movie has Kipps on a small island type of land in the old abandoned mansion where the women once lived. This leads to their being little dialogue in the movie. This movie is very good at invoking a startled response with sudden movements and sounds from throughout the house and surrounding area.

As I said before this was a very enjoyable movie that I would recommend everyone one to see. Stay tuned till I post about next week’s movie.
